  • You might think that with Widespread Panic beginning a year long break in January it would be easy to keep up with Dave Schools. Not one to let the proverbial moss grow, nothing could be further from the truth! In fact, Dave has just returned from the Bahamas where he began recording work on his newest project - Stockholm Syndrome. An eclectic mix of musicians including Modulus artists Jerry Josephs and Eric McFadden, Stockholm Syndrome promises to be one of the most original bands on the road in 2004. Look for their first album due out in June 2004. www.thestockholm-syndrome.com Also, be sure to check out more of Dave & Lang's quirky funk on the second release from Slang titled "More Talk About Tonight," due out in early 2004. www.terminusrecords.com

  • Fresh from a California trip that saw him playing on the Modulus booth at NAMM, British solo bassist Steve Lawson is back out on the road in March, this time for a 6 date UK tour, co-headlining with Michael Manring. Steve will be playing his trusty semihollow fretless Q6, as well as employing the newest Modulus in his arsenal - a one-of-a-kind carved top semi-hollow fretted Q6 that caused heart palpatations when it was unveiled at the NAMM show in Anaheim! Steve's latest CD, 'For The Love Of Open Spaces' is picking up rave reviews and radio airplay across the world. The March issue of Bass Player features an article on him, and a photo featuring his beloved fretless. www.stevelawson.net

  • In the Chili Peppers' brief time off before heading to Europe for some mid-summer dates, now is a good time to help spread awareness for one of Flea's favorite causes - The Silverlake Conservatory of Music. Here is a quick overview found on the RHCP site:

The Silverlake Conservatory of Music, a non-profit organization founded by Flea, provides affordable music lessons, instruments, and scholarships for children starting as young as 3 years old, and up to adults of any age.
Through enabling kids and adults from any beat to get involved with music, the Silverlake Conservatory aims to provide a constructive means to combat problems such as self destructive behaviour, violence and drug addiction for example.
Musical study has been scientifically proven to encourage the development of critical thinking and self discipline skills. Moreover it can greatly improve children' s early cognitive development, basic math and reading abilities, self-esteem, SAT scores, ability to work in teams, spatial reasoning skills, and school attendance. As statistics show, the long term result is that children involved with music education will be more likely to graduate from high school and attend college, and are less likely to be involved with gangs and substance abuse.

For more information, visit www.silverlakeconservatory.com or call (323)665-3363. We are obviously proud to be associated with Flea; Not only for his work on stage and in the studio, but also for his efforts to help the community.
